Tomatoes, Peppers, and Eggplants: Key Growing Recommendations

Let us focus on such crops as tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants! Timing and dates are the first thing that concerns gardeners when planting seedlings. But exact dates cannot be given even for a specific region.

For transplanting ready seedlings, you can only rely on the actual weather in the given region, observing spring processes.

According to general rules, the optimal timing for transplanting heat-loving vegetables — peppers, tomatoes, eggplants — into open ground comes when the soil has sufficiently warmed up to +15°C and the threat of frost has passed.

It should be noted that the planting scheme and plot preparation for each vegetable will be different.

Tomatoes are highly adaptable to various soil types, but grow best on loamy and sandy loam soils with good water permeability and high fertility.

Be sure to pay attention to proper tomato watering. Plant care after transplanting seedlings into the ground primarily consists of weeding, pest control, and fertilizer application.

Let us consider some important aspects of tomato watering:

  • in the absence of rainfall, tomatoes should be watered abundantly once a week;
  • water temperature should be no lower than +15°C;
  • after watering, it is essential to loosen the soil between rows and hill up the plants.

Now let us consider the crop — pepper! Pepper is a very heat-loving crop. It fears cold water, cold winds, and cold weather. Pepper is also very demanding regarding soil composition.

To achieve high pepper yields, it is necessary to use very fertile, deeply dug, loose soils.

Pepper seedlings are ready for transplanting into the ground when they have at least 7-9 well-developed leaves and several formed flowers.

Pepper seedlings are placed on the plot in well-lit, warm, and wind-protected locations. On heavy, compacted soils, peppers are best planted on raised beds.

The soil and air should also warm up to +15°C. Humus, compost, and ash are added to the bed.

And let us conclude our garden journey with the crop — eggplant! Eggplants are also a heat-loving crop. We recommend making the eggplant bed in a sunny location, protected from winds.

Eggplants do not tolerate windy areas and drafts. Note that low-lying areas where rainwater may accumulate should not be chosen for planting.

An interesting fact: "the purple ones" are very heat-loving vegetables, but they do not tolerate prolonged heat well. In hot summer conditions with temperatures above +28°C, plants may show signs of stress and even drop their ovaries.

Eggplants prefer light, well-drained, water- and air-permeable soil. Sandy loam soil is best. Plant roots need to breathe well, which does not happen in heavy clay soils.

Although eggplants are less sensitive to soil acidity than other nightshade crops, the soil should still not be acidic or overly alkaline. Eggplants require adequate watering throughout the growing season.

As we conclude our journey, let us focus on choosing a fertilizer for nightshade crops.

We present to your attention Microbiological fertilizer "Biogor-Zh" of the "KM" series, designed specifically for tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants.

Our complex preparation contains microorganisms with probiotic, phosphate-mobilizing, nitrogen-fixing, and cellulose-decomposing capabilities, as well as carbohydrates, macro- and microelements necessary for healthy vegetable development and growth.

Microbiological fertilizer "Biogor-Zh" of the "KM" series promotes:

  • increased yields and healthy growth of tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants;
  • early harvest, which is especially important for crops with long maturation periods;
  • providing vegetables with rich flavor and high nutritional value;
  • helping protect plants from rot and other diseases that can affect harvest quality;
  • increased plant resistance to adverse environmental conditions.

We wish you a rich and healthy nightshade harvest!
